BUSINESS CLIMATE
Rising Sun/Ohio County is somewhat unique in that
it has one large employer, the Grand Victoria Casino and Resort with
more than 1,000 employees. The Grand Victoria generates annually
approximately $150 million to the area and the Sate of Indiana.
In order to expand and diversify its economic base
for the long-term, however, the community is utilizing the significant
current economic resources generated by the Grand Victoria to
aggressively undertake a joint city/county economic development
program. This program presently includes the development of a new
business park, the development of business expansion and relocation
incentive packages, the attraction of one or more institutions of
higher education, as well as the continued development of the Rising
Sun Historic Downtown program.
The Rising Sun/Ohio County multi-faceted economic
development initiative is being implemented in conjunction with many
incentive and assistance programs offered by the newly created Indiana Economic
Development Corporation. The IEDC is organized as a public private
partnership governed by a twelve-member board and operates like a
business to respond quickly to the needs of businesses.
